I was but a short way up the trail - my heart stopped when I saw this

So I started shooting from a long distance at max telephoto |

Then I proceeded to close the gap. (This and the next really are different photos.) |

Amazingly he didn't make much of an attempt to run or hide, although he was tiring of my intrusion into his search for mates. I got to within about 20 feet of him before other hikers happened along. |
