Directions:
   From: Payson:
From Payson continue North on Highway 87 through the little town of  Strawberry. FR300 is approximately 10.4 miles from the center of Strawberry.  Turn East onto FR 300 and follow this adequate gravel road for approximately 12.5 miles.  Turn South and follow a jeep road for about 0.4 mile and then turn West and proceed to the edge of the rim - about 0.2 mile.

I had just purchased a used pop-up trailer and decided to run up to the Mogollon Rim for a one night shake-down cruise.  Happily I can report that everything went well for this trip.  But since the trip had not been well planned, I got up there without my hiking boots or water bottles so my hiking was very limited.  However, you will notice from one of the photos on page two of the album that there are several trails in the vicinity - I started up the Fred Haught trail #22 for about 1/2 a mile.  If you enjoy hiking in the pine forest, this is a great place to hike.

My brother-in-law has given my a book entitled "On the Arizona Trail" by Kelly Tighe and Susan Moran which is a guide that patches together existing routes to create a route through Arizona from the Mexican boarder to Utah.  One section of the Arizona trail runs past General Springs Cabin and follows trail #22 for a short ways before branching off to the left to the Rock Crossing Campground.  The fork in the trail is marked.  As far as I know, this is the first time I have been on a portion of the route that is known as the Arizona Trial.

Enjoy,
