Sept '99 - We leave O'ahu and move over to the Big Isle

Mvc-168f.jpg (68089 bytes) Sharon walked out on the lava flow by the City of Refuge - just before taking a nasty fall on the slick lava.
Mvc-185f.jpg (129131 bytes) One day we took a short hike up the Malama trail - there were Petroglyphs scattered along the route.
Mvc-188f.jpg (47816 bytes) Sharon enjoying this short hike.
Mvc-203f.jpg (60795 bytes) The trail ends at a large flat slab of lava which has hundreds of Petroglyphs - sort of a Petroglyph library.
Mvc-231f.jpg (47253 bytes) We toured the Waipi'o Valley - we were driven down to the floor of the valley in an old decrepit Blazer, as we rode through the valley on this wagon our guides dog ran ahead - after the trip around the valley, he was ready for a nap.
Mvc-232f.jpg (98175 bytes) One of the mules decided Sharon was standing a little too close, so it took a nip at her - undaunted, we eventually got the shot.
Mvc-245f.jpg (106730 bytes) Later that day we toured the tropical rain forest along the overlook at Akaka Falls.
