More Family Spam - Mar 16, '02
I have been having some fun with the family website - now the "slideshows" are complete with captions and come with the capability for the pictures to be quickly opened in a larger sized window.
As you know, I have three sister-in-laws, all of whom I love dearly. These gentle women are as different as night and day; which is a good thing, given the disparate idiosyncrasies of their respective spouses. While two of these special women cope with my human frailty by generally ignoring my multitude of faults, the other seems to be on a life-long mission to make me whole again by pointing out each minor flaw - simply to give me the opportunity to correct it of course. Life can be interesting!
Recently, being very rushed and abrupt as usual, I sent out a family spam announcing the Family Website was back on the air again. Soon I received back a reply from one of the in-laws pointing out that I had failed to inquire about how everyone else was doing - after much thought, I realized that indeed this is a major character flaw on my part. So I sat down and typed out a reply (to her reply) inquiring as to the health and welfare of each member (by name) of her family, including the family pets. Soon I received a long missive, chronicling the current state of life for each member of her family - it was fun and interesting.
But, she ended without discussing the current state of the family pets and inquired "What is Sharon up to?" I was mystified by this inquiry into Sharon's height, but none-the-less I responded affirmatively and honestly and then asked if she was upset with the pets, since she had not mentioned them. The following is her response - it is a genuine classic!
Hi,
Thanks for catching my spelling errors! I didn't run grammar check, oh dear! Besides being a little shorter than last year how is Sharon? I heard she was flying to a sewing seminar, (personally I think I'd rather do taxes). My dogs are fine and dandy. They continue to greet me no matter how late I get home. They don't answer me back, they listen intently, and they don't wake me up at night. Thor did tell me that if he doesn't get to go camping and hiking again soon, his waistline he developed last summer will surely be lost forever. He said, just about the time those 14'ers were getting easy, we quit going. He doesn't understand the logic at all. He also said, isn't there a happy medium? Something between 14,000' and 5,280'. I told him to talk to Mike about that. Kalu just sat and listened and agreed. She too is feeling very out of shape. Thankfully for her though, it is squirrel hatching time. Soon there will be lots of new little squirrels to chase along the fence. She said this keeps her in shape and Thor should try it!
Scott should be on his way home soon we hope. His classes start on Monday. It snowed like crazy last night. Cyndi went skiing today. Being unemployed hasn't affected her social life too terribly. She keeps managing to meet Venezuelans who fall madly in love with her. She is teaching Pablo, his twin sister and his brother-in-law how to ski today. That should be very interesting. She has not skied in over two years and I don't think ever got above an intermediate level skier. She is kind of like her dad this way! It doesn't matter how much or how little experience she has in a sport, just wing it and away you go. Pablo is a PhD candidate at Colorado School of Mines. Mines seems to import Venezuelans so Cyndi is likely never to run out. She met this guy at a party Scott took her to. Now that Scott has been to Spain he attends any function he can where he can practice Spanish. So he knows all the Spanish speaking students on campus. Mike keeps hoping Cyndi will bring home a guy who we can understand. Between Mike's hearing loss and Pablo's accent a lot is lost in the conversation.
My grandmother is just thankful she (Cyndi) did not get married in Japan. She is so happy Cyndi came home from that awful place as she puts it. Maybe World War II is still impacting her way of thinking. Yes, by the way, my grandmother is still doing well for being 91 yrs. old. She gave Cyndi all kinds of advice when Cyndi visited as did everyone in Boston.
Better get back to taxes.
Susan
The women has long, lucid conversations with her dogs - at least I'm not hearing voices yet! Oh!, and before I forget, How is everyone?
